| This week I took some time to visit Waypoint Services in Cedar Rapids. The folks at Waypoint do an amazing job of helping Iowans who are in need of a helping hand — below are some highlights of my visit:
During my visit at Waypoint we discussed several issues related to homelessness in Cedar Rapids, including the challenges in getting to and from work, getting children into child care, and even getting to local appointments. We also talked about the Housing First model of services that Waypoint is able to provide through funding from Housing and Urban Development (HUD):
Waypoint offers a number of services to those in need including preparing things like basic hygiene packs with supplies like tooth paste, shampoo, conditioner, and soap. Small things like this can make a huge difference in a person's daily life:
Another one of the services offered at Waypoint is the Child Care Center, which is currently being expanded. This facility allow mothers an opportunity to work while offering access to a safe and secure environment for their children to learn and play. I had a wonderful time visiting with the kids and look forward to seeing them again soon!
Since taking office it's been a top priority for me to visit and meet with as many organizations and constituents as possible across Northeast Iowa, and I plan to continue doing that as I represent the First District. If you'd ever like to get in touch with me, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of my local offices here.
All the best,
